Education

  • Primary School

The statistics may not show it, but education is not taken for granted in Haiti. Parents highly value it and children proudly wear their uniforms. So, why aren't more children being educated? Cost is a big factor.

Notre Dame de l’Annonciation School, operated by the Companions of Jesus, provides quality primary education for children in this rural community, serving students from grades one through six. In addition to a strong academic foundation, each child receives a hot meal every school day.

  • Secondary School

A family may spend as much as 40% of their income on education while for other families, tuition is a complete barrier. In order for students to move on to secondary school they must pass a difficult government test.

Collège Cœur de Marie is the secondary school branch of Notre Dame de l'Annonciation, carrying forward the mission of providing quality education to children in rural Haiti. Today, the school proudly teaches approximately 450 students. At Collège Cœur de Marie, students will also receive a hot meal daily.

  • Trade School

Offering one to two year courses in various specializations including: Culinary Arts and Clothing Design.

The Trade School, located in Delmas, near Port-au-Prince has been a successful path for students to learn new skills and immediate employment. The recent 31 graduates have found jobs in their field and the new school year hosts 44 students.

Mission Haiti partners with Reiser Relief, of Coon Rapids, MN to provide the $70,000 needed annually to operate the school. The school is administered by the Companions of Jesus, a Haitian Women’s Religious Organization.

  • University

Education is that agent of transformation and hope for Haitian students. Mission Haiti supports 10-15 students per year for 3-4 year programs in University studies in fields including Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Education, Agriculture, Law, Computer Sciences, Psychology and Business. Students must pass rigorous exams and at the end of their studies, give back to their Haitian communities in many ways. Average cost per year is $3,600 per studen and the need is great. With your support, you can make it possible for a student to attend school. Your gift of education will give a student hope for a brighter future.
