Not enough children attend school in Haiti:
- 40% of kids ages 5 to 15 are not in school.
- Nearly 60% do not finish primary school.
- Only about 61% of Haitians are literate.
- University enrollment is less than 1%
The statistics may not show it, but education is not taken for granted in Haiti. Parents highly value it and children proudly wear their uniforms. So, why aren't more children being educated? Cost is a big factor. A family may spend as much as 40% of their income on education while for other families, tuition is a complete barrier.
